How does social media become a mapping tool?

In the age of social media, photography has been digitally democratized. The consequence is a new perspective of our built environment defined by citizen intelligence.

Photographs clustered by hashtags inform the lay relevance of buildings in a highly densified urban environment - pin-pointing the physical location from where a particular image was snapped (read geo-tagging) along with other social media data of the photographer  - evolves how we construe public attention.
Two case-studies were undertaken - the first around the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, and the the second in the Lal Bagh Lake and Garden area of Bengaluru.
In both cases, Big Data is leveraged to export information from Google Maps to the Mosquito interface in the Grasshopper environment. All kinds of associated urban information can be extracted there-on - location, buildings, roads, OpenStreetMap data, profiles, images and messages Both animations above encapsulate how we experience cities together, albeit from our individual lens.

This animation explores the role of Machine Learning in architectural design, as a tower designed around a 3D Voronoi massing concept is experienced in the urban fabric of Dubai - its planes are gradually highlighted as one person's vision navigates the streets around it.
Further, the massing is optimized responsively through MOeA (multi-objective evolutionary algorithms) to maximize views from all over the neighborhood.
